The Lore of Timothy Pickett

Childhood

Music has been a part of Timothy's life for as long as he can remember. His first instrument was voice, singing in a youth choir led by his older sister. At the age of 7 he started playing the guitar, and at the age of 10 he started playing the trumpet. That's when he started composing his own music. At the age of 13, he taught himself how to play the piano, and composed his own music.

Early Adulthood

Tim began his college education at Berkley in Boston, studying jazz and commercial music. Since he wanted to do more composing though, he decided to leave the university. This took his life in a new direction, and at the age of 21 he moved to California and decided to live outside at the base of a mountain in San Lois Obispo. He lived among the homeless, learning about their culture, and working at the soup kitchen.

In 1984, he decided to go back to college, and went to Antioch in southern Ohio. While he attended, he was very immersed with the theater, writing plays. After a year and a half, one of his professors encouraged him to go to the New England Conservatory of Music. After a year of attending, he had to leave due to the failure of both his kidneys.

At the age of 25, Tim needed a kidney transplant, and thankfully his brother was able to give him one. However, this event changed his life forever. He was no longer able to go on the adventures he was used to, he was no longer able to live like a young adult. He had to focus on his health and live near accessible health care.

After Kidney Failure

In 1988, Timothy went back to the New England Conservatory to finish his degree in composition. He graduated in 1990. In 1993, he went back to school to get his Masters, and graduated in 1996. While in school, he met the love of his life, a fellow musician, whom he married in 1995. In 2002, he went to the University of British Columbia for his PhD in composition.

Despite Cancer

Timothy was diagnosed with Cancer at the age of 43, and has struggled to keep it at bay since. However, this hasn't stopped him. He has composed over 50 pieces of music many that have been performed for the public, and many that are not yet available to the public.

Despite all the health problems, regardless of economic pressures Tim has never caved to social pressure, giving him the freedom to continue composing.

Inspirations and Accomplishments

When asked what inspires him, Tim said the music is inside of him. It's a part of who he is. He's always humming a tune, hearing a tune, or composing. His should inspires him.

His greatest accomplishment is his integrity as a creative person. He has always been true to himself and to God. Timothy was given this gift by God, and he honors that gift by giving  his music his very best effort.

Timothy's music will give people an extraordinary experience into a new world. His music will feed your soul. He creates a world that he wants to share with others.
