Poetry by Timothy Pickett

Behold the Woods

With every gust of wind through the trees,

A grand crescendo envelopes me.

As the swirling, spiraling wind rushes by,

It's like a soothing kiss caressing me.

Even when it's snowing, I don't mind.

The cold wind blowing, with me it's fine.

But now it's spring and the sun comes spilling through the trees.

Behold the woods.

It beckons you.

Come!

Listen to the chorus coursing through the woods.

High aloft resounds a rich delicious roar.

Listen to the wind blowing through the trees. What a lovely sound, this is what it says:

Hush oh hush oh hush, with me you are at home.

Hush oh hush oh hush oh hush, may all your cares be gone.

Behold the woods.

The moon is full.

It beckons you.

Come!

Moonlight never hurts to light to path before you. You might find a secret hiding place for two.

Oh what joy it is wandering though this magical forest.

The immortal sprit of the woods shows all the stages of life of every generation.

Look at the delicate baby birch trees.

Adorned by ferns on the forest floor.

To the hollowed out oaks who keep their beauty even in death.

Go past the boundary line and you will find a secret pine forest before your eyes. The nature conservancy has purchased adjoining land.

Behold the woods.

Deeper it goes.

The wondrous space, it has more space, more to embrace.

It beckons you.

Come home!

Cedar, ash, elm, and birch. Hemlock, spruce, pine, and fir. Maple beech, oak and apple; enjoy their great majesty.

Blowing is the wind, creaking are the bows.

Rustling Arte the leaves; this is what they say:

Hush oh hush oh hush, with me you are at home. Hush oh hush oh hush oh hush, may all your cares be gone.

It's getting dark. The hush of evening, it softly murmurs.

In a valley by a spring, there are wild apple trees that the deer like to feed on. Secretly, they nibble, they nibble. You can't see them. You can't see them. Hushhhhh.
